Interested in Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is a deeply personal endeavor and I am moved that you would consider me as your director.
To begin, direction is a partnership between you and God, therefore , when we the focus is on God and while I, as your director may have a story or an anecdote to share, my job is to guide. It is not to provide answers, entertain, or shoulder your burdents. As this is a partnership, you deserve to know something about me. My background information can be found HERE, but there is more information that is pertinent to spiritual direction that I must share.
I characterize my spirituality as Ignatian and subscribe to the fourteen rules as laid out by St. Ignatius. A great reference to the rules is HERE and I strongly advise my directees pick up a copy.
Although I am Catholic, I have directees from other faith traditions so if you are not Catholic, please know that while I may use the occasional Catholic reference (mostly out of force of habit), it is not my intent to convert anyone. Paul states that “we must be all things to all people” (1 Cor 9) so that is what I try to do. In short, if you are Baptist, I will probably not pray in tongues with you; if you are Pentecostal, I will probably not invoke Mary to intercede for you and if you are agonistic and curious about the faith I am happy to start with the small steps. The more honest you are about your faith, the easier I can meet you where you are. Directees should also know that confidentiality is always front and center, so although notes may be taken so we can set goals and track progress, sessions are not recorded.
I possess a Masters Degree from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Pastoral Studies. This is the same degree that Catholic Deacons achieve and is equivalent to a pastoral ordination certificate outside of the Catholic Church.
For most spiritual direction, I recommend meeting once per month for two hours, either in person or online. During this time we will talk, set goals, and chart your progress. I recognize that Like any relationship, things may do not always work out. I therefore recommend a probationary period of two visits wherein, either party can, without reason or retaliation, release and dissolve the relationship. I do not charge a set fee, but if (after the initial probationary period) you feel so moved, a donation of $40/month seems fair and can be set up automatically HERE.
I am also a huge fan of the Unbound deliverance prayer method and I strongly recommend that all directees go through the prayer method in on of our sessions.
